Mastering grub2

From the article:
If you’re running Linux, there’s a good chance your distro of choice uses Grub as the default bootloader. Features have been piling up in Grub without much thought going into revamping the core program. Eventually, this lead to a messy patchwork that no one really wanted to maintain. At this point, Grub2 was born. It’s a complete rewrite from the ground up using a completely redesigned structure. This new Grub gives us powerful features like conditional statements (if/then, etc), intelligent upgrades, and some greatly improved graphics.

All these fonts mentioned here are provided as packages, which can easily installed using command line tools like apt-get or using Synaptic. New DistroWatch graphics

I recently posted about creating new graphics for the DistroWatch site. I have learned that the new badge I created has been placed in the DistroWatch FAQ, you can see it toward the bottom of that page under the section entitled "Do you provide any DistroWatch banners and badges for use on my own web site?". The DistroWatch site is important to the Linux and BSD communities so place the new badge on your site and link back to DistroWatch.

New graphics for DistroWatch

I recently emailed Ladislav Bodnar of DistroWatch to request an official DistroWatch image that I could use on my blog and link back to his site. Mr. Bodnar stated that he didn't have any such images so I volunteered to create some. I spent an hour or so having fun designing some new graphics for his site and they have been uploaded. The next time you see the DistroWatch Weekly entry on the front page, you'll see the logo I designed. I'm not sure where he will place the badge, but I know it will be made available to anyone who wants to use it to link back to DistroWatch. In the meantime, you can see the new DistroWatch site badge I created by looking at the lower right portion of any page (just above my profile link) in this blog. I had fun.. The GIMP ROCKS!

While there are times when using the Linux command line could be expeditious and the benefits of possessing the ability to use it are numerous, many users can be intimidated by the prospect.
